Going on 10 hour car ride with 5 month old puppy?

We are going on a 10 hr. car ride with our 5 month bichon frise. Actually, 10 hrs. one day and another 10 hrs. two days later. We plan on crating her. Any ideas on her feeding schedule. I've read that you can't feed puppy before a long car ride. Can she be fed an hour before trip? So far, she's been good in the car and doesn't hyperventilate. Also, any suggestions on how to entertain puppies on long trips other than her favorite toys?
Answers:
Feeding is more dependant on wether the dog gets car sick. She is going to get hungry within that ten hours.

I would suggest a Kong filled with frozen peanut butter to entertain her
stop every 3 hours and walk and give water is good for both of you
i took my 6 month old dog on a 17 hour drive straight thru. i would feed him everytime I stopped to eat somewhere. He probably slept 15 hours total. When he was awake I gave him small doggie treats and rawhides and just let him sit with me. good luck. remmember you will have to make extra stops thou so he can go potty.
well, I know from experience that the puppy will get car sick and (so does the family :) ). So, I would call your vet. and ask him on what to do.
my dogs have gone on long trips since they were all young. all i do is make sure they have a blanket to sleep on, and a few chew toys. bring along a bowl so if u stop u can give the pup some water.. mine dont eat while we are on trips. i have offered them, but they just dont eat..when we get to where we are going, they will eat a few bites, play, then eat that night..
i dont see why u couldnt feed the pup before a car ride..as long as u stop a few times to let it out..
Plan for many stops to let the puppy get out to 'void' and play to let go of some energy. I wouldn't feed the puppy for a few hours prior to your trip and shortly before crating her, you'll want to play with her to burn off that puppy energy as well.
I highly recommend having ice cubes available for her instead of water and just give her a few at a time so her tummy doesn't get upset. Feed her small, light meals instead of a big meal. You may want to check with your vet to get a tranquilizer just in case things don't go so well you have a back up. You'll be fine, though. Bring along an extra blanket or two for her crate, paper towels and some cleaning solution just in case the puppy gets car sick, you'll be glad you did!!
We travel with dogs all the time, only feed when you stop for the night. Do not feed in the morning, you are just asking for a car sick dog if you do.
Be careful with where you air the dog, rest arias are a breeding ground for viruses.
You are probably going to have to stop a lot. Bichons have an incredible amount of energy, especially when they are so young. But good luck, have fun, and I'm glad you're including your new family member in your vacation! (Or whatever you are goung for).
