German Shepherd/ Doberman mixed dogs...?

Aside from the negative image portrayed by movies and TV, is this mix suitable to be a family pet with small children? I am also considering adopting a young Boxer/German Sheperd mix.

I am aware that ALL dogs and small children should be supervised constantly.

Thanks.
Answers:
Try the dog out, take the kids to the adoption center and take the kids into a private quiet area and let them get acquainted with both dogs one at a time. Be sure you talk to the staff too, if one of the dogs is head shy or feet sensitive for example that dog might not be good with children because young children move unexpectedly.
Both breeds are great dogs, it has more to do with each dog's life experiences with children. If it is a young dog with no relatively bad child experiences you should be fine.
Thank you for considering these guys. I hope you find the right dog for your bunch.
Good luck!
you can never tell temprement, alot of it is in their upbringing. As for looks i cannot picture any of the mixtures you describe, id guess on the boxer shepherd as first choice. If you had choice of any though with kids, id go for ladrador, retriever, border collie type. But I have a long big boned long haired german sheperd, and she is absolutely superb with kids. She will just roll over, or play. And yes youve got it right, still allways constantly supervised.
Had a shep/dobie for 10 years, was great with kids. It is all about how ya raise them
This is a *wonderful* mix! Both breeds are very smart and loyal.

Take the dog to puppy school (or obedience training) as soon as you get it. This will do more good for you, your family, %26 the dog than you can imagine.

I had such a breed and she was the best dog in the world! The only time she got "mean" was when someone tried to break into my home. All the rest of the time, she was a 100 pound lap-dog! : )

Good luck with your new dog!
All dogs breeds are great whether it is the doberman/Shepperd or the Boxer/Shepperd are both fine, it is how you train them and how much close you keep them to you, the more close the more they become a part of your family, for kids, never go to rotweillers they get tempered from unexpectable moves but doberman dogs are great with kids I had a female who was around 3 of my neices and she was great with them.
But for the best large breeds for kids:
1. Labradors
2. Saint Bernards
3. German Sheppards
rest are great but those are so patient and less tempered. Also KEEP YOUR KIDS AWAY FROM A FEMALE DOG AFTER GIVING BIRTH.
Hi there,
My boyfriend's family had that mix and his mother was just telling me about him yesterday. She says that because of the shepherd he was good with her kids (and my boyfriend was HORRIBLE with him, he used to bite his tail and ride him like a horse lol) and not a once did he ever turn on them. She says that they also had an incident with someone who climbed their fence into the backyard and that Trusty(their dog) was instantly there and (her words) he looked pure Doberman at that point. So she says GREAT with her kids and even better as a guard dog. Hope that answers your question
Don't listen to people tell you that you cant tell. It is how you raise them. I have a beautiful chow chow and she is the best dog I ever had. She wouldn't harm a flea. Now if you broke into my house.thats another story. She is protective and loving because I raised her with lots of love and I never had to scold her because chows are the easiest to train and they worship their owners. She is around a three month old and a 6 year old. I will say...she ignores the infant and never gets to close...which is good...you dont want your dog licking the babies face anyways...hee hee...good luck
