THATS MY QUESTION!LOL How do I get the info on him that I need?
Answers:
Well first where did you get bit? Were you in his yard? Once you answer that then you can decide what to do.
If you were in fact in his yard, then it's your fault and he doesn't have to do anything for you.
If not though, your plan would have to be suing him. Let him know if you don't get his info then you will go to civil claim or whatever and sue him.
Personally if the dog has had it's rabies shot then you didn't need to really do anything, of course unless you need stitches or something. I think you overreacted just a tad, but do what you will!
Did you report the bite to the police? They have to have the dog quarantined to check for rabies and they will assist you in getting the proper information IF he has insurance.
Call animal control and report the bite and the police.
You can sue him depending on the severity of the bite and the circumstances and your locality.
Call the police and file a complaint against the dog an its owner.
Threaten to take him to court.
i would tell him to give you the information that you need or you will have to take it to the police. you probaly should get ahold of the police just so you have record of it and in case the dog has something wrong with it that can be taken care of too.
your claim is against the owner, its his decision to involve his insurance company.
Send him a claim for your medical and other damages and request payment. Start a small claims action if he doesnt reply.
File a police report.
He doesnt have to tell you and he probbaly wont becuase he will get cancelled. I woudl call the police or animal control to make a report. Another thing you can try is to call the claims departments for the major insurance carrier. Ask them to check and see if he is insured there. State Farm,Allstate,Nationwide etc. they are obligated by law to take the claim if he has a policy. I workedin insurance for 20 years and most of the time people wont give it to you then its becuase they dont have it.
Tell him if he doesn't give you the info you need then you will take him to small claims court and it will end up costing him more and you can have him pay for the court cost plus medical bills and pain and suffering.
Take him to court. First of all, were you on your land or his? In some states if you are on his land and got bit, he is not required to pay. (unless he hired you to work for him) If you were walking by his house and dog came out and bit you, then you have a case. Does your town have leash laws? Good luck.
A lawyer would be able to get that information for ya!
Reporting a dog bite to the police and pressing charges are not the same thing. You've done the first, now you need to take the next step and sue.
