Ok, first of all, you don't want the dog to protest you, or its pack except in a last resort. The dog protecting the pack will give the dog the sense that it is the Alpha and with a German Shepherd, once they think they are the Alpha, it is hard to take that controll away. Now you can train them for protection. I was looking at the website and you did get a high quality dog. Olly, the damn of your puppy, is a multiple time champion and a SCHUTZHUND level 3. In Germany , a ***** is not allowed to be bred if she is not a SCHUTZHUND level 1. SCHUTZHUND is the way you want to go. Get Honey Bear into SCHUTZHUND training as soon as you can, and it is never too early. I have seen 6 month old female puppies that can take down a 6ft man. That is the best way to go to get real protection. Other than that, as long as Honey Bear things she is part of the family, she will lay her life down for you and that will usually take place naturally at 12 months, but you can see it as early as 4 months. You can see a picture of my two beuatiful boys at this link oif you like. http://pets.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/fo...
I would think so because dogs will protect their "pack". You are part of the pack to your dog. Especially so because you are the sole care giver.
Depends. We also got a Male German Shepard from a very good blood line, and although a very intellegent dog, and GREAT with kids, he was not a guard dog. He was more of a silly, frisbee chewing dog, yet I would still see his sister every now and then, and she was VERY guarded. So, jsut depends on the way you raise them! We didnt raise him to be an attack dog, or a guard dog, he was a family dog, and he was happy at that. :)
I hope you are not using this dog as a guard dog because of bullies at school heh. but to answer your question, it really depends on how you train your german sheperd. dogs can be trained to be protective but of course not aggressive where they attack anything - always start out with basic obedience - I believe if you are the sole handler of the dog he will protect you if a situation arises but lets say someone bothers you verbally - the dog may not understand that and will not do anything - but lets say you are attacked - the dog most likely will protect you. perhaps you can browse online or get some books on how to train a guard dog.
She will naturally be a deterrant.. Whether or not she will guard you, that's another story.. If you socialize her and help build her confidence as she grows up and matures. Never hit her, and always give her good reason to love and respect you, she is likely to come to your defense should you need help.
You did get a working line dog. Getting showlinesis a common mistake.

IF you train your dog in personal protection, then your dog might protect you. Schutzhund is protection SPORT. A Schutzhund trained dog is not necessarily going to protect anyone.

IF you train your dog in mondi ring or PSA and follow up with good work on hidden sleeves, there's a chance.

german shepherd are real good gurad dogs if she don't work out dry out the akita breed
I believe all dogs will protect their owners if a real threatening situation arose. ASt least I would hope mine would, lol.
Hi.yes your GSD will protect you once she is older and her protective instincts "kick in" (btw...she is beautiful!) GSD's are extremely loyal to their owners and family. My GSD kirby was about 8 months old when he saved my then 2 yr old son from running out into a busy road. he stood between my son and the road and started to herd him back to me hanging on to the hood of his jacket the entire time until I reached him. also, when he was a little over a 1 yr we were out on a walk and I was confronted by some drunken idiots.he stood in front of me in full protection "mode" and scared them off with his stance and bark...I couldn't ask for a better dog! he is the most lovable, sweet natured dog you could ever want, but when it comes to someone possibly getting hurt he gets very protective without being a wild aggressive dog...get her into Shutzhund!!! I bet she would excel at it.just my humble opinion!
