which one is best 4 me?
Answers:
Shepherds are loyal and although they get along with the whole family, they tend to be more loyal toward one person. They also train easily. Shepherds will pull the leash when real excited but once you train them you can tell them to stop it and they will. You can also use a choker chain collar until the dog learns to walk well on the leash.

Huskeys are very, very smart but can also be escape artists. You need a good, high fence. They are very loving toward all family members but don't let them run out the front door because they run like deer. lol

Both are good dogs.
I own a Siberian Husky. Mine is scared of water, but she gets along with kids. She always runs away when I let her off the leash. They are hard to train because they have a short attention span. They also pull hard on the leash, to the point where you have to use a harness to avoid choking the dog! Huskies are beautiful dogs, but I suggest you do more research before considering one.
I also have a Border Collie. If you wouldn't mind a highly strung dog with a lot of energy, you might like a border collie.
Have you considered adopting a dog that is perhaps a year old so you can tell what its personality is like?
Good luck finding your perfect dog! Don't forget to visit your local humane society or pound!
neither!
both are very strong dogs, both aren't known for getting along with kids...
unless you get one as a pup..i wouldn't advise it
All large breeds will pull hard on a leash unless they are properly trained. Training classes are a must.
I have never had either breed. I would suggest an internet search on both and see what the characteristics of each breed are.
Before settling on one or the other, consider contacting rescue organizations for both breeds. All dogs deserve a second chance on life.
Dogsi n general are loyal. There arn't certain breeds that won't run away when off their leash. I would go for a German Shepherd, personally I think Siberian Huskys are prettier. But they need to work. All the German Shepherds I know are calmer. I hear they have a calmer nature to them, Huskys are worker though. If you decide on one. Make sure alot fo excercise! Both would be good around kids, they just need to be with them alot.
Well given your requirements, I would say the German Shepherd. Huskies WILL run if you let them off leash. It's what they were born to do. For pulling on the leash, all you need is proper training for the dog. One of my shepherds came to me pulling on the leash but he was quickly trained to walk politely. Both breeds are good with kids GENERALLY. Meet the parents if you can, have your kids meet the dog if possible, and socialize it so that it knows kids are good to be around. Don't let your kids use it as a punching bag. Shepherds are much easier to train than huskies but a dominant shepherd will be a challenge for anyone not familiar with dominant dogs. Again, find out about the dog and/or its parents first and see what it is like. If you teach the dog from a young age that water is fun then it will probably enjoy water. No way to guarantee that with either breed.

Shepherds and huskies like to play and need exercise, at least an hour a day of hard exercise. They become destructive if they don't get it. Both are great at agility and that is a great sport to bond with your dog and keep it exercised (and keep you fit too!). Shepherds are often more vocal than huskies. Huskies DO NOT like to be left alone so a crate would be a good idea. Shepherds can have seperation anxiety but usually not like a husky. Shepherds tend to be easier to train. Huskies are better with strangers. They are AWFUL guard dogs most of the time but if you have people coming and going all day then that is a good thing. Shepherds are more aloof with strangers and don't usually appreciate unannounced guests. They are often excellent guard dogs. Both breeds will usually defend their family with their life. Both breeds blow coat once or twice a year (depeds on where you live). They shed a little throughout the year. Huskies are more likely to dig but shepherds can be pretty bad as well, especially if bored. Both breeds are often very prey driven and will chase small animals. Personally, I think you need to do alot of research on both breeds. Both are wonderful but neither is for the novice owner. I think the shepherd is better for you so I recommend finding some breeders you like and that do Puppy Aptitude Testing and asking them to pick your puppy for you. You'll be much more likely to have a dog that meets your requirements. No matter which one you pick, sign up for an obedience class. Neither is exactly fun without proper training and these breeds are like a golden retriever. They WILL take over your house if you don't make it clear from day one that YOU are in charge. An obedience class will show you how to take control in a positive manner before harsh methods are necessary.
German Sheperd. They are bold, cheerful, obedient and eager to please! Very loyal too! The have a high learning ability.

I had a German Sheperd when I was growing up and he was like a brother! =) He was very sweet and gentle around me but he was well trained and can attack on command. He loved to swim when we take him to the beach.

Hope you get a dog that's right for you!
German's might get. lets just say Territorial and would not be so good for small kids. Huskies. great sled dogs , but that is all i know
try a Golden receiver or lab. not get an small dog for they are SO nosy. i can hear the nabiors dogs a mile a way. p.s. Huskies need lots of space to run a rond
All the behaviors that your looking for can be easily taught to either breed. A good website www.dogbreedinfo.com
of all the german shepherds ive know and its been about 30 they are all very protectioe and will possibley if given the chance attack when they think there family is in harm. go for a huskey. there all soooo sweet and loving. very easy to train. good luck
husky!
german shepards are mean. litterally.
you should really get a german shepherd because husky if you let them off leash they will run away because they like to run really fast and chase small animals and sheps just like to guard your house and be your friend good luck on finding a dog
Training classes and personality of the dog is probably the most important. German shepherd is probably more suitable for you but I have seen beautifull mannered siberian husky as well. It really depends on the personality.
THEY ARE BOTH VERY GOOD DOGS. I HAVE FOUND GERMAN SHEPHARDS MAY BARK MORE. HUSKIES LOVE KIDS, VERY SMART, LOVEABLE, LOVE TO GO EVERYWHERE, HOWEVER, THEY ALSO LOVE TO DIG, GET LOOSE, RUN....REQUIRE MUCH SUPERVISION. AND THEY ALSO LIKE TO PULL....YOU MAY WANT TO GET SHEPHARD. WE HAVE A HUSKY, SIERRA AND TWO OF HER PUPPIES (BORN SWEETEST DAY, 2005). SHE WAS BREED WITH BLACK LAB. NOW, THESE PUPPIES (I STILL CALL PUPPIES) ARE REALLY GREAT DOGS. WE HAVE ONE THAT RESEMBLES SHEPHARD WITH FLOPPY EARS. UNIQUE MARKINGS. BEAUTIFUL. THE OTHER IS BLACK, WHITE AND SOME GREYISH UNDERNEATH. HE IS ALSO GORGEOUS. THEY LOVE KIDS, DO NOT TRY TO GET LOOSE, AFFECTIONATE, SMART, ETC. NOW, THESE TWO ALSO PULL, BECAUSE THEIR MAMA DOES. THAT IS ALL THEY KNOW. I LIKE TO WALK FAST AND SOMETIMES JOG WITH THEM, SO FOR ME, THIS IS GOOD. NOW, IF YOU GET BLACK LAB/ HUSKY AS PUPPY, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRAIN NOT TO PULL. THESE DOGS ARE ALSO GREAT, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT BARK AT EVERYTHING...ONLY WHEN NECESSARY. READ ABOUT HUSKIES PRIOR AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE FOR YOU. THEY ARE GREAT, BEAUTIFUL DOGS, BUT HAVE TO WATCH MORE THAN KIDS!!! I HAVE HAD GERMAN SHEPHARDS WHILE GROWING UP. THEY ARE GOOD DOGS ALSO, BUT RESEARCH MORE...
ONE OTHER THING....HUSKIES WILL RUN IF OFF LEASH! THEY LIKE TO RUN AND TEASE AND NOT STREET SMART. THEY WILL ALWAYS COME BACK, UNLESS STOLEN...HUSKIES REQUIRE MUCH, HOWEVER, WE LOVE OURS!
Siberian Huskie
OMG! Definetly a German Shepherd for you, I have one! Well, I think I have one that is mixed, I know my pup is a mix, but she looks like a german shepherd, not sure. I've never met her parents before, she is 9 weeks old now, she is sooo smart. She's fully potty trained, she has gotten baths before, she does'nt do much, but sit there in terror, but she never trys to bite or even growl at me. I don't bathe her anymore, because I did'nt know that puppies weren't supposed to get bathed. She knows how to sit, and would NEVER run away. Sometimes when I find her chewing on her leash, I tell her "no" and stick her outside. She does'nt do anything, but sit at the door and cry, then when I let her in, she does'nt even think to growl at the leash. They catch on to things fast. When I walk with her outside without her leash, she just jumps all over my feet, or trys to go dig in the garden when she thinks I'm not looking. She actually chases me when we go to the park, she does'nt want me to leave her alone anywhere besides home. She knows home very well, when I take her to the park, on the way home I just drop the leash, and she runs by my side. I guess she knows she is going home. Sometimes, I think she thinks I'm lost, she trys to pull me in the direction of the house, like I don't already know. I've read books on Huskies, and they do say that huskys will probably run away, beacuse the have strong hunting instincs. Huskies are cute, but I don't think there for you, becasue I've heard there not very easy to train, and get bored with the same old thing. You have to be a very experienced dog owner to get along well with one. The only downfall, of germans is that they are so smart, that they get very bored with just plush toys. They will got find something to challege there brains, and get into trouble, so always keep an eye on them. They can be very naughty, and try to trick you.

Good luck on your decision!
When I was about 8 or 9 my parents got a German Shepard and I can tell you from a childs point of view they are wonderful with kids. He was my best buddy growing up. We would do everything together. Mine was not afraid of the water but if other people were swimming he would start whining and swim up to you to try and save you because in his mind you were in great danger. Also they are one of the smartest dogs you can get so as long as you take the right approach on training it you should have no problems whatsoever getting it to not pull on the leash or running away.

I have a doberman now (amazing dogs) but almost got a German Shepard. The only reason I did not is beacause they are terrible shedders. Your floors will be covered in dog hair if you don't keep them well brushed.
Both breeds are good breeds but are totally different in temperment. I have had both and we actually still have both breeds in our family. Regardless of breed it is all about how you train them and raise them. Huskies do have a natural urge to run, and are "hyper" in comparison to the German Shepherd. Neither breed is a water breed but you can get them use to it at a young age. Same with children. Any dog regardless of breed should be raised around kids. Usually anything you want the dog to be accustomed as an adult you want them well socialized to it as a puppy. Most of you want has to be trained, and does not come naturally. In my experiences the German Shepherds were easier to train then the Huskies. Both dogs need to be trained not to pull on the leash. Keep in mind both are clasified as working breeds hence have a strong desire to do what they have been bred to do. A great number of both these breeds end up in shelters only because without proper exercise and training they can become destructive. My brother currently has 2 huskies and he runs them both two hours a day and they still have energy.
Both are great dogs but as with any dog they need training and exercise. I now have Labs but if I were to get one of the breeds again I would go with the German Shepherd only because they are calmer not as flighty, and were easier to train.
We own a GS and he was bought specifically for my 7 year old son. Our GS DIGS in the water bowl (we have one of those black rubber troughs for livestock). He likes the sprinklers and the rain. As far as letting them off the leash, they need to be trained to stay by ur side. The same with the pulling on the leash. The way most dogs behave depends on the training or lack of. Our GS is as tall as a 3 year old lab (we have 2 labs also) and he is only 5 months old. I would go with what u desire to have. Keep in mind that no matter what choice u make, it will have to be trained to ur satisfaction. And that alone takes time and patience. Good Luck!!
OK, lets break this down:

Dog tha likes water, both breeds love water;
Gets along with kids, both are great for kids.
Won't run away if taken off a leash, German Shepherds are often trained off leash, Huskies, give them an inch and they will take 30 miles.
Won;t pull on a leash. Are you aware that huskies were bred for PULLING sleds, yes, they pull, and thats all the do. If you have never had a German Shepherd though, do your research. See if you have a local German Shepherd Rescue, volunteer with them, the are very dominate dogs and can be a hand full if you don't know what you are doing. Also get a puppy, and get it to training right away.
German shep
Both i had a german shepard,and i love huskies
